Here you will find a summary of the mission and vision of Children’s Ministry at Covenant Fellowship. Below you will find an overview of the curriculum we have chosen and some reasons we feel like it is a good fit for our children’s ministry. We are intentional and prayerful about what we choose to teach your kids, and we want your family to be intentional about the time that you spend with us at church. :)
SUNDAY
Babies – 5th (first service-9:00-10:00am; second service-10:30-11:30am)
On Sunday mornings we use Lifeway’s Bible Studies for Life curriculum for preschoolers through fifth graders. We love this curriculum because it teaches straight from the Bible and uses Biblical truths to tackle real life issues. During the first service, kids are told the bible story using fun visual aids, they do an interactive activity or craft that goes along with the bible lesson, and work on memorizing the Bible verse together.
During the second service, kids worship God with the rest of the church by singing in the back of the Family Life Center outside of their classroom or watching the band via livestream in their classroom. Then the teacher introduces the bible story and shows them an animated video of the Bible story. Afterwards, the teacher asks “real life connection” questions that help guide kids to connect the Biblical truths to their present lives and apply the lessons learned. So both services follow the same bible story but still feel different enough to be engaging and beneficial. Another thing that is helpful, is that the kids are memorizing the same Bible verse for both services which allows for kids to be on the same page and gives a great opportunity for Bible verse retention. If you're thinking “why is my child being taught the same thing twice in a row if they stay for both services?”. My answer would be that repetition = retention. Our goal is that your child grows out of children’s ministry with a good grasp of the stories in the Bible.
WEDNESDAY
Babies – 5th (6:00-7:30 pm)
Wednesday nights are OH SO FUN! We intentionally have extra play time to allow kids to build friendships. It also allows the adult leaders to have some extra time to further connect and disciple. Preschoolers through 3rd grade will be going through the curriculum The Gospel Project. The Gospel Project is a “Christ-centered Bible study examining the grand narrative of Scripture and how it transforms lives”. The website explains it well here:
“Immerses kids and preschoolers in the gospel through every story, theological concept, and call to mission from Genesis to Revelation. Ultimately, the gospel message changes everything; heart transformation can only take place when a child experiences the gospel. Kids and preschoolers will understand the Bible is not just a collection of stories, but one unified story—God’s story of redemption.”
I took a class in college about the grand metanarrative of the Bible and it opened my eyes to so much more of God’s intentionality and plan throughout all of scripture. I am really excited that the kids get to learn early on that all of scripture points to Jesus!
Our 4th and 5th grade girls and boys will be doing a missions based curriculum called Missions Journey where they learn about missionary families from all over the world. These classes focus on praying for missionaries and allows for a great time of discipleship. Letting the “older” kids do something different will help to re-engage them with something new and interesting.
We are starting a new system to memorize scripture. Every kid will receive the 77 Memory Verses Every Kid Should Know book where they can memorize scripture by: reading it, writing it, and coloring it. Each kid will get points for memorizing verses and they are able to use their points in the prize store that will be open on the first of the month. Kids are able to go at their own pace and hide God’s word in their heart.
After Wednesday night church the Cafe is open with snacks, drinks, and acai bowls from 7:30 until 8:00pm. I really encourage this hangout time to make connections with other families in the church.
